Blog #2 - Inside Out and Back Again
How similar is Hà to the author of the book, Thannha Lai? Although the book is a memoir, is there anything different between both of their stories? In the article I asked you to read for homework, what do you learn about Vietnam and Hà's (Thannha Lai's) journey from Saigon to the United States? (2-3 paragraphs, using quotes from the article and from the book when necessary!)

Ha and the author of the book, Thannha Lai are very similar. They are very similar because the book is about her life, Ha is technically her. She went through the same things she wrote about Ha going through in her book. Although the book is a memoir, there are some differences between Thannha and her charter Ha. In real life, she has more siblings than she does in the book. Im also pretty sure she left out a lot of major details from her trip and that the story has left a lot out.
ReplyDeleteFrom the article I learned a lot from Thannha Lai’s point of view. She was 10 years old the North Vietnamese tanks crashed through the gates of the presidential palace in Saigon. She also “recalls fleeing with her eight older siblings and her mother to the nearby port and boarding a crowded South Vietnamese Navy ship that then headed to sea.” She states, “But for a young girl, it seemed like a great huge adventure, I thought it was a vacation.”
